The US just does not seem to get enough of Obama. The country’s fascination for him just does not seem to cease. The new President will not just go down in history as one of the youngest to occupy the White House but also as the most techno savvy President of the US. From election campaigning through Facebook or updating what he has been up to in Twitter, Obama knows how exactly to capture the mood of the Gen Y and make them identify with him.

But being a president has its own drawbacks. The self-confessed Blackberry addict cannot take his gizmo to the Capitol Hill because of security reasons involved in exchanging emails through the Blackberry. Various gizmos and technologies have been developed around Obama and his techno-savvy nature.

Like the special Obama application for the sensational iPhone 3G developed during the Presidential campaign. The app provided updates on the election campaign details, helped identify party members in various locations, gather support and send reminders to people to vote on Election Day. He has already announced setting up a Chief Technology Officer for the country, the first of its kind post, to being the best of technologies in the private sector, for government services. Now that the first family has set its foot in the White House, the Obama fever has peaked. There are many websites on the internet providing a range free MP3 ringtones download on Obama. Some of the ringtones include the famous ‘Go Obama’ song and his famous statements like, “Ready to go?”, “Yes we can” and so on.

For those with a creative bent of mind, it’s also possible to make your own ringtones by mixing Obama’s voice with the music you like. To have a ringtone that goes, “Hi, this is Barack Obama asking you to answer the call. Help change America” would be really cool. It’s something which Obama himself would love to have.

It means we have rights. Rights that many have fought for and given their lives for. Unfortunately in current America there is, for the most part, two separate classes of citizenship, a bipartisanship if you will. You have the poor and then you have the wealthy. Yes, there is a middle class, but the republicans and George Bush are slowly getting rid of this class. Their reason for this is simple. The middle class doesn’t like a government that only favors the rich and it has a voice. The middle class also provides a door for many to become rich. The rich and wealthy don’t like the poor and don’t like to fraternize outside of their class. So, needless to say, if the republicans (the rich and wealthy) have their way there will only be two classes left, the poor and the wealthy.

Basically, this is how it works. In America you have a right to great health care if you are rich or have a great employer sponsored plan. Due to the rising cost of healthcare many employers are limiting or ending these plans for employees. Of course, at the same time, executives are actually getting more benefits than ever. So basically, the reality is you have a right to marginal health care. The great health care George Bush says we have is reserved for the rich.

You also have the right to vote. What you don’t know and the government doesn’t want you to know is that your votes don’t count or matter. Just look at the close election between George Bush and Al Gore. Al Gore really won, but Jeb Bush, George Bush’s brother and Governor of Florida played around with Florida’s votes and voila George won. This is even though he had fewer votes. If you watched Michael Moore’s documentary Farenheit 9/11 you will see that many voters were outraged that their votes were not included. This was especially so with lower class and primarily black or African Americans. None were allowed to have a voice or make a formal complaint because they needed a senator to back them and of course none would speak out against Jeb or George Bush. What happened here is simple, George and Jeb Bush have conspired to great political power. What they did was dig up dirt and such on every political official that might become a problem and let them know what they have so they would just let this happen. This is not a true democracy. It is becoming more like socialist Russia 20 years ago. How can we liberate Iraq when we are not liberated ourselves?

You have the right or responsibility to pay taxes. Yes, only in America do the rich on average pay only 1% or less of their income in taxes while the middle class and lower class pay on average 35% of their income. Only the rich can afford powerful tax attorneys and fancy tax havens. It was recently made known that many of the rich have even set up trusts in childrens names that they don’t have. Don’t worry, your rich, the government probably won’t catch it and if they do you’ll get off easy. Its amazing what you can get away with in America if you have money. Look at O.J. Simpson. You can literally kill someone and then hide your assets so no one can touch your money. O.J. claimed he was broke and had no funds. Right. Just look at each presidents outgoing list of pardons when they leave office. All rich and wealthy people looking to escape felonies and similar that would put most Americans behind bars for many years. If you are rich and are facing something awful, just make a donation or two of 0,000 to a presidents library fund or similar and you’ll be amazed at what you can get away with.

As citizens we are not guilty until proven innocent. Actually, the poor are basically guilty, and the rich will get out of it, regardless. Actually, the rich don’t even get arrested sometimes. Just look at Senator Kennedy. You can drive drunk, hit a concrete barrier, be observed as being drunk by several sworn officers and be driven home. The rest of us would be given the breathalizer and thrown in the drunk tank to await a court date for either DUI or DWUI (as senator Kennedy claimed it was a medication problem). He was drunk or under the influence and could have killed someone.

There are many more rights that we have or don’t really have and are actually reserved for the rich and wealthy, but I’ll get into those in a later article. I’m busy now reading an article from the Associated Press on how George Bush’s wife ran a stop sign when she was 17 and killed someone but she was never charged with any crime. Yes America is a truly great democracy – if you are rich and wealthy

It was just a few weeks ago that cuts in Social Security looked like they had been taken off the table indefinitely but recent reports show that the sheer size of the budget deficit are having even Democrats take another peek at this sensitive issue. A Wall Street Journal story on March 21 said that the Democrats had broken ranks and some were favoring raising the retirement limit and other moves to help reduce the budget deficit. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) and Sen. Chuck Shumer are said to be vehemently opposed to any such move, stating that Social Security is in a trust fund and cuts in it would have no impact on the deficit. Dozens of other Senators and the American Association for Retired Persons are also lobbying heavily against linking Social Security to the deficit. There are three Democratic Senators (Mark Warner of Virginia, Kent Conrad of North Dakota and Richard Durbin of Illinois) who are said to be leading the charge of doing just that, negotiating with three Republicans who together are now dubbed the “Gang of Six”. They are looking to cut trillion from the Federal budget deficit over the next decade in part by cutting entitlement programs.Although in theory Social Security is in a separate fund which is not supposed to be linked to the deficit, in fact for decades the government took in more in Social Security withholding taxes than it paid out in benefits. The fund used this surplus to buy U.S. Treasury Bonds, effectively loaning money to the government out of the Social Security fund. The Gang of Six is now looking at raising the retirement age to 69 by 2075, increasing payroll taxes for high wage earnings and “trimming benefits for certain groups”. No elaboration has been given on this plan for trimming, which will face huge opposition from many in the Senate, not to mention the American Association for Retired Persons, which represents those over 50 years old and has a huge lobbying budget. “Nobody wants to hit a buzz-saw called ‘people over the age of 50,’” said American Association for Retired Persons spokesperson Nancy LeaMond. There is no question we have a problem on our hands but it’s surprising that politicians want to risk bringing up cuts to Social Security just prior to the Presidential elections next year. The fund is projected to be solvent through 2037, after which it would only be able to pay out about 75-80% of promised benefits. At Family inHome Caregiving of Monterey, we have Clients all over the Peninsula, from Carmel, Pacific Grove and Pebble Beach up to Seaside, Marina, Sand City and Moss Landing. They come from all walks of life, but they are all concerned about the lack of an inflationary (CPI) increase in their social security payments over the past two years while day-to-day costs like food, gas and medical bills shoot through the roof. I am urging them all to get out and vote. Please, make your voices heard on important issues like this.

What does Rick Perry stand for? Millions of Republicans and conservatives are asking this question as the 2012 elections draw closer. At the time of this writing, he has not officially announced his intentions for next year, but it appears that Perry is going to run. It makes plenty of sense for him to run. The polls show he is already one of the strongest candidates in the GOP field. If you are wondering what does Rick Perry Stand for, you have come to the right place! Let’s discuss his stance on the major issues of conservatives in 2012.AbortionChristians are extremely passionate about this issue, and the right candidate for the GOP should stand for pro-life causes. Perry is strongly pro-life. He opposes the government policy of funding abortions. He has also signed a bill in Texas where teenage girls under the age of 18 must get parental consent before deciding to get an abortion. In 2011, Perry signed the Mandatory Ultrasound Bill. This bill requires a woman who wants to get an abortion to go through an ultrasound where she sees images on the sonogram of her unborn child and hears the baby’s heartbeat.Religious BeliefsRick Perry is an evangelical Christian. He forms his beliefs primarily on Christian principles. On a couple of occasions, Rick Perry has declared times of prayer and fasting. He declared June 6, 2011 as a time of fasting and prayer. Perry regularly attends different church services in Texas to speak. He also called for a time of prayer in April 2011 to pray for rain for Texas. He believes that intelligent design should be taught in the school system along with evolution. He does not believe that the government should establish an official religion as the government taxes everyone the same. The Role of Government in SocietyGovernor Rick Perry supports limited central government. He feels that the current Federal government is bloated and needs to be cut back.

Global Warming and Other Environmental IssuesGovernor Perry believes that there is no substantial evidence of global warming. He feels that scientists have not concluded that global warming is a real problem in our society today. He believes that global warming is a lot of media hype, and he is staunchly opposed to passing legislation that supports climate change initiatives. Fiscal PoliciesTexas is one of the states that does’t have a state income tax, and Governor Perry has opposed any attempts to create an income tax for Texas. He is a fiscal conservative that stands for conservative fiscal values in most cases. He is very strong on job creation, as Texas leads the nation in new jobs created since 2003. It has created 73.4 % of the nation’s jobs since 2006. This is huge as many Americans are out of work today. What does Rick Perry stand for? Perry stands for pro-life, fiscal conservative values, social conservatives, and limited government. He is one of the best candidates for the Tea Party Movement.

Progress Being Made on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid Reform? View From A Private Duty Caregiver in Carmel, Family inHome Caregiving of Monterey, CA

In an interesting power play, six senators, three Democrats and three Republicans (dubbed the “Gang of Six” in the media) have reportedly been having secret meetings to come up with a deficit reduction plan, bypassing President Barack Obama’s call for forming a bipartisan group in Congress. They are trying to fast track the process by coming up with a solution to the crisis by the time Congress returns from their May recess. According to the New York Times they have been working on the process for four months. Democrats are said to be agreeable to putting curbs on the growth of Medicare and Medicaid (Medi-Cal in California) spending as well as some changes to Social Security, while Republicans would accept higher taxes and lower military spending. The group is lead by Senator Mark Warner (Democrat, Virginia) and Senator Saxby Chambliss (Republican, Georgia). The other four members of the group are Senator Kent Conrad (Democrat, North Dakota), Senator Richard Durbin (Democrat, Illinois), Senator Tom Coburn (Republican, Oklahoma) and Michael Crapo (Republican, Idaho). Instead of the draconian cuts to Medical that were in a bill passed by the House on Friday, the group is said to be working on a plan to raise payroll withholding taxes to fund higher costs in Social Security and Medicare as well as some other taxes which could fund Medical. There’s likely to be some cuts in these programs, but the plan being worked on seems to be much more modest on the cost cutting side for seniors and our nation’s poorest on Medical. Stay tuned, this issue won’t be resolved quickly.

Washington, DC (Vocus) January 16, 2010

In commemoration of African American History Month, the Library of Congress on Feb. 3 will launch a new online exhibition about the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), an organization which has donated its records to the Library, where they are the most-consulted collection. On Feb. 26, the Library of Congress also will hold a symposium on the NAACP in room LJ 119 of the Thomas Jefferson Building, 10 First St. S.E., Washington, D.C., from 10 a.m. to noon. The symposium will be free and open to the public.

Joining Dr. James H. Billington, the Librarian of Congress, on Feb. 3 to launch the new website at http://myloc.gov/exhibitions/naacp with a ceremony in the Library?s Coolidge Auditorium at 10 a.m. will be NAACP President and CEO Benjamin Jealous; AARP Vice-President, Multicultural Markets Edna Kane-Williams; and invited guests U.S. Reps. James Clyburn and Debbie Wasserman Schultz.

The site will feature nearly 70 treasures from the NAACP?s storied history, including the ?Call,? Oswald Garrison Villard?s manifesto that launched the NAACP; the organization?s constitution and bylaws; photos of such key events as the New York Silent Protest of 1917, the Marian Anderson concert at the Lincoln Memorial in 1939 and Rosa Parks? 1955 arrest; documents about investigations of lynchings; President Harry Truman?s executive orders barring discrimination in the federal government and military; the Supreme Court decisions on discrimination; the Voting Rights Act of 1965; and background on seminal figures in the NAACP. The online exhibition will expand to eventually feature some 150 items.

?We are proud, at the Library, to make these historic NAACP records available to Congress and the American people,? Billington said. ?This is both our largest collection, encompassing some 5 million items, and our most widely used collection. It is a stellar example of how access to the primary documents of our history?even our relatively recent history?can be important and deeply moving to researchers and visiting citizens alike.

?The importance of this organization to the lives of African Americans?those alive today and their forebears and descendants?cannot be overstated,? Billington said.

Speaking at the symposium ?The NAACP: Reflections on the First 100 Years? will be Patricia Sullivan, associate professor of history and African-American studies at the University of South Carolina; Robert L. Zangrando, professor emeritus of history at the University of Akron; and Kenneth W. Mack, professor of law at Harvard University. The symposium will explore both the history of the NAACP, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2009, and its future.

Sullivan is the author of ?Lift Every Voice: The NAACP and the Making of the Civil Rights Movement? (The New Press, 2009) and is a fellow at the W.E.B. Du Bois Institute at Harvard University; Zangrando is the author of ?The NAACP Crusade Against Lynching, 1909-1950? (Temple University Press, 1980) and ?Civil Rights and African Americans: A Documentary History? (1968; reprint, Northwestern University Press, 1991) and Mack is the author of ?Representing the Race: Creating the Civil Rights Lawyer, 1920-1955? (Harvard University Press, 2010).

The Library’s NAACP online exhibition and symposium both are made possible by the generous support of AARP.

The records of the NAACP are the cornerstone of the Library?s unparalleled resources for the study of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. The records were given to the Library of Congress in 1964 and are periodically augmented. They cover issues and history from the period 1842-2003.

Included are manuscripts, prints, photographs, pamphlets, broadsides, audio tapes, phonograph records, films and video recordings. A finding aid for these materials is available on the web at http://www.loc.gov/rr/mss/text/naacp-front.html.

In addition to the NAACP records, the Library also houses a vast array of materials useful in the study of African Americans? struggle for equal rights: the original records of organizations including the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the National Urban League, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights, the microfilmed records of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC).

The Library also holds the [personal papers of major figures in African American history, including those of Booker T. Washington, Frederick Douglass, Roy Wilkins, A. Philip Randolph, Bayard Rustin, Arthur Spingarn, Moorfield Storey, James Forman, Patricia Roberts Harris, Edward W. Brooke, Thurgood Marshall, Robert L. Carter and Joseph Rauh.

Founded in 1800, the Library of Congress is the nation?s oldest federal cultural institution. The Library seeks to spark imagination and creativity and to further human understanding and wisdom by providing access to knowledge through its magnificent collections, programs and exhibitions. Many of the Library?s rich resources can be accessed through its website at http://www.loc.gov and via interactive exhibitions on the website myLOC.gov.
