Movie Reviews this week looks at the biopic of George W. Bush presidency leading up to the Iraq War W Movie. This is Oliver Stone’s(Director of Platoon) biographic on the life of the 43rd President George W. Bush Jr. chronicling his days from Yale through to his presidency, and the Iraq and Afghan wars.

The lead role is played superbly by Josh Brolin(No country for old men), having the Texas accent, and Bush’s mannerisms down to a fine art, playing the younger Bush during his time at Yale, and the Grey-haired Bush during his time right up to the conflict in Iraq.

Vice-President Dick Cheney is played superbly by an unrecognisable Richard Dreyfuss(Mr. Holland’s Opus) with a very uncanny resemblance, even the mannerisms of grinding his teeth, Condoleeza Rice is played by an unrecognisable Thandie Newton(The pursuit of Happyness, The Chronicles of Riddick), Colin Powell is played impressively by Jeffrey Wright(Shaft, Quantum of Solace), Donald Rumsfeld is played by the veteran Scott Glenn(The patriarch in Brothers and sisters), Paul Wolfowitz is played by Dennis Boutsikaris(The Last Don), Karl Rove is played by the diminutive and brilliant Toby Jones(Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) .

We chronicle various aspects of the former President’s life, from drilling jobs in Texas, running his own oil company, running a major league team, all seem overshadowed by the deep disappointment Bush Jr. regards in himself, as opposed to his younger brother, who he sees as his father’s favourite Governor of Florida Jeb Bush, as seen by his father George W. Bush Sr. played wonderfully by James Cromwell (L.A. Confidential). At times the elder Bush is long suffering towards his son, and other times, does not communicate with him directly, apparently only through notes, as he did when George W. Bush became Governor of Texas.

The conflicts amongst the key participants in the Oval office before the justification of the War in Iraq, notably the friction between Donald Rumsfeld, Vice-President Dick Chenney, Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz and Commander of the Armed Forces Colin Powell, regarding the search for weapons of mass destruction, and following U.N. protocol is well acted. The arrogance of Bush and his dismissal of the U.N. in this regard is believable given press conferences at that time.

Overall this portrayal of George W. Bush Jr. from the movie W aims to keep a balanced perspective, from his battle with alcohol, and trying to make his own way in the world, without everybody else thinking everything in his life has been handed to him on a silver platter, to his liaison with Laura Bush played by the lovely Elizabeth Banks(Meet Dave), to the much maligned war, where as he puts it, “I am just trying to make the world a better place”.

There is no joy in Abortionville today. The mighty PPFOA has struck out, at least in New Jersey.

The nation’s most industrious abortionists, those folks at the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the folks who like to pretend they plan parenthhood for people but who actually excel at terminating possible parenthood, have been cut off by New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Christie terminated .5 million in public funding for PPFOA by his cash-strapped state, a move which irritated Planned Parenthood and Jersey senatorial Democrats so much that they spitefully reinstated payment of the taxpayer monies in a 30-10 vote, with help from a few Republicans. The governor promptly vetoed the measure and the Senate tried to override but the few Republicans refused to contradict their party’s governor and the effort failed.

The result: The Planned Parenthood of Southern New Jersey’s Cherry Hill abortion center was forced to shutter its doors, an action that was no doubt disappointing to the eager abortion purveyors of Cherry Hill. They at least could draw solace from the fact women would still be “serviced” by PP-SNJ facilities in Camden, Bellmawr, and Edgewater Park.

Christie’s veto followed an earlier veto in July of a bill intended to restore funding for family planning centers.

A number of questions arise from those two vetoes but first, a personal observation, a glum oservation.

Over the last half-century, aborting the pre-born has become a popular indoor sport in our sorry world with some 42 million abortions committed annually or approximately 115,000 per day, according to the Guttmacher Institute, the “non-profit” research arm of Planned Parenthood.

Perhaps some, certainly not all, of our sorry world’s ills can be attributed to the planet’s growing disregard for human life which logically leads to a cheapening of such lives which reasonably leads to mindless and incessant wars, to enslaving our fellow man, to genocides, to terrorist atrocities and to similar horrors.

That’s just a random, related thought.

The veto questions:

. Question Number One: The Guttmacher Institute may be technically a non-profit but much of its research leads to more business for PPFOA, which is very profitable. Christie’s second veto led to the closing of a single PP-SNJ facility in Cherry Hill which suffered a loss of 0,000 in tax subsidies. Why were New Jersey taxpayers being forced to make such subsidies to a profit-making enterprise?

. Question Number Two: Since the PPFOA accounts for upwards of 25% of all abortions committed in America, or approximately 300,000 per annum, and amassed (2008) “income of .02 billion-with reported [windfall] profits of nearly 5 million” and of that figure, “Taxpayers kick in more than 6 million worth of government grants and contracts at both the state and federal levels… a third of Planned Parenthood’s budget,” (http://tiny.cc/mug9d), why are ANY American taxpayers paying for abortions?

. Question Number Three: Why hasn’t Governor Chris Christie declared for the Republican nomination for the presidency in 2012? Of late, we have rarely witnessed a politician who has dared to face down unions and demanded cutbacks, who has dared to inform the electorate of the obvious, that out of control spending leads inevitably to bankruptcy, who has pulled public financing out of private abortions. So, why not run?

How’s about a 2012 ticket of Chris Christie, New Jersey’s Tim Pawlenty, and Tim Pawlenty, Minnesota’s Ronald Reagan, or the reverse, a Pawlenty/Christie ticket?

We could do worse, much worse, and either option could work. A major plus would be the American taxpayer would get out of the business of killing pre-born babies.
